英文名稱: American Literature I ;
授課目的： 911事件改變世人對美國的看法,也重挫美國人容納異己的態度,如此巨大的歷史事件亦牽動文學想像,上學期將由(後-)911美國文學為始,探討恐懼、悅納異己、寬恕與遺忘、911衝擊及其餘波,繼而閱讀晚近移民作家筆下的美國,並以種族議題為終。美國文學史綿長繁複,侑於授課時數,本課程僅能去蕪存菁閱讀對文學史、文類或斷代有決定性影響作家作品。閱讀為一切學習之根,ESL學生修習美國文學期以增進對美國的了解(亦觀照自我),窺悉想像與國家的關係,進而鋭化詮釋和批判敏感度。;
